Earth Hour 2014 Berlin

It’s Earth Hour around the World and millions of people in over 7000 cities in 150 countries across all 7 continents are switching their lights off for an hour to raise awareness for the planet.

In Berlin, the Brandenburger Tor went completely dark for an hour, together with other famous Landmarks throughout the city and the WWF-Youth performed a special Black-light-Show, forming the words “Earth Hour 2014” and other names and places chosen by the audience.

Lights of Respect Installation Berlin

Lichter des Respekts (eng. Lights of Respect) was a project, by the Giuseppe-Marcone-Foundation, to protest against violence and for a peaceful coexistence. The installations were designed by the artists Sofia Camargo and Thomas E. J. Klasen and painted by many citizens of Berlin.

The Giuseppe-Marcone-Foundation was founded in 2011, after the 23 years old Giuseppe Marcone was overrun by a car and died, while he was chased by two rowdies who wanted to beat him up.

About 200 differently painted lanterns were hung up in the trees throughout the Lietzenseepark in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district, during march 2014, to catch people’s attention and to encourage them to think, about what happened and how we can prevent something like that in the future.

Herzgrün Festival Berlin 2014

Every year, and this year, for the 9th time, the Sony Center acts as a venue for free live concerts to celebrate the beginning of Spring in the City, the Herzgrün Festival.

In two large greenhouses, many local and international musicians and bands perform in front of a group of up to 90 people, surrounded by a vast variety of beautiful flowers and plants.

From Hip hop to jazz, pop, electronic, country, indie, folk and dance, every genre is represented on a musical trip through the world of love songs.

Volkswagen e-mobility Event Berlin

German car maker Volkswagen started a new campaign to promote their new upcoming electronic car line e-mobility. The Event was hosted in several cities across Europe, including London, Paris and Berlin, at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport.

Visitors had the opportunity to inform themselves about the new electronic system, get a first view of the new models and even test-drive them on the large abandoned airfield.

Berlin Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day 2014

It’s St. Patrick’s Day and thousands of Irish locals celebrated this day in Berlin with live bagpipe music (provided by the Berlin Pipe Company), a huge parade and a live concert with international guests at Berlin’s Arena, with the best of traditional Irish music, Irish dance and Irish food and drinks.

After everything started in 2011, organized by the Irish Society of Berlin, 2014 was the fourth year in a row the green festival was celebrated in Berlin.

NOAH German Premiere Berlin

The German premiere of NOAH took place in Berlin on Thursday, 13 March, 2014. Director Darren Aronofsky (also known for his movies The Wrestler and Black Swan), together with actors Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Douglas Booth and Logan Lerman walked the carpet.

The newly reopened Zoo Palast, near Berlin’s Zoological Garden, served as venue for this premiere.

ITB 2014 – Travel the World

The International Travel Trade Fair, or ITB 2014, world’s largest tourism trade fair, took place during the last 5 days in Berlin, with hotels, tourist boards, tour operators, system providers, airlines and car rental companies advertising their products.

This year, 10,147 exhibitors from 189 countries were represented in 26 halls, which were booked to capacity. Overall, some 114,000 trade visitors travelled to Berlin and 60,000 members of the general public came to find out about the wide-ranging information on offer from exhibitors and providers of niche market products.
