The Swimming Ice Rink

It’s winter and ice skating is pretty common at this season, so I took my skates and went to the Jannowitzbrücke in Berlin-Mitte. One of the national broadcasters, the rbb, created there a wonderful ice rink… on a ship, swimming on the spree.

Color Changing Berlin

Winter is coming, well not yet, but soon. Right now, fall is in the air and Berlin changes its color from green to red and yellow. Sometimes, I take a walk in the park early in the morning and this time, it was Berlin’s Tiergarten (German for Animal Garden) which surrounds the Victors Column in the borough of Mitte.

Walking through all these beautiful colored trees gives you a relaxed feeling and what else do you need for a good start in the day.

Festival of Lights 2011

Once again, one of the largest illumination festivals in the world, the Festival of Lights, takes place in Berlin and world-famous landmarks and monuments are dressed in spectacular light. German and international artists and lighting designers present extraordinary illuminations, light art and creative designs. All 81 illuminated buildings will shine in different colors until October 23th daily from 7:30pm till 0:00am.

Great Oberbaum Water Fight

Oberbaum-Bridge 2011, a war between two districts, a war between Kreuzberg (Xberg) and Friedrichshain (Fhain), a war with everything you can throw but won’t hurt people. Since 1998, each summer, people of all kinds and all ages meet up at Oberbaum-Bridge Berlin to fight an anarchic battle with rotten fruits, water-bombs and similar harmless objects.

This year’s winner and therefore the new champion of the bridge is Kreuzberg.

Festival of Lights 2011

Tempelhof Airport Kiting

It seems like the sun doesn’t want to come out this summer and what to do on all these grey windy days? Get your kite and off to Tempelhof Airport.

The Tempelhof Airport has been used since closing to host numerous fairs and events. The first major events included the BREAD & BUTTER fashion tradeshow in July and the Berlin Festival 2009 concert in August.

Since 2010 the vast outside area is being used as a city park and therefore a perfect place for activities like kiting, skating, biking, running and even RC cars can be seen from time to time.

On a sunny day, you can see performing artists all over the city, and it doesn’t take much to draw the attention of surrounding passersby and tourists. For example, just a paddling pool and some soap water.

What happens if a lonely piano is standing around in public? After some examining, people are starting to play on it and you will get a big plus, if you can actually play something that doesn’t sound like as if you are hitting the keys with only two fingers.

Berlinale 2011 – The Exhibition

The Berlinale 2011 is over. During the last week 18 young photographers received the opportunity to experience working as professional photojournalists to show us this years Berlinale through their eyes, or should I say, through their cameras?

All the works were gathered at the C/O Berlin gallery and Dieter Kosslick himself opened the exhibition “Close Up!”.

Berlinale 2011 – Helena Bonham Carter

Finally I had some time to visit this years Berlinale at Potsdamer Platz and lucky me got some shots of Helena Bonham Carter as she left the Hyatt Hotel near the Berlinale Palace to promote the new movie “The King’s Speech”.

Helena is well known for her role as Bellatrix Lestrange in Joan K Rowlings Harry Potter or on the Side of Johnny Depp as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.

Darth Vader spotted at Brandenburg Gate

Darth Vader is in town and he roams around the Brandenburg Gate, but beware, if you threaten him he will challenge you to a lightsaber duel, but if you ask him friendly for a direction, he will kindly help you out.
