Oberbaum-Bridge 2011, a war between two districts, a war between Kreuzberg (Xberg) and Friedrichshain (Fhain), a war with everything you can throw but won’t hurt people. Since 1998, each summer, people of all kinds and all ages meet up at Oberbaum-Bridge Berlin to fight an anarchic battle with rotten fruits, water-bombs and similar harmless objects.
This year’s winner and therefore the new champion of the bridge is Kreuzberg.
After four days, the Carnival of Cultures 2011 ended yesterday with a big parade from Hermannplatz to Yorckstraße. About 4.800 participants organised in 93 groups and about 700.000 visitors changed Kreuzberg into a sea of colours and ideas.
The street procession focussed on the cultural richness of Berlin, and also highlighted the often hidden treasures of its international cultural scene.
I took about 1000 pictures, but sadly I can’t show all of them, so I think that 29 pictures will be enough to give you an idea of what happened yesterday.
The Streetart called “Da Holy House” was painted by urban artists Emess, Hr.v.Bias und disturbanity. It covers a facade of a house in Berlin’s district Kreuzberg.
This amazing Mural on two large walls at Cuvrystraße 50 in Berlin Kreuzberg, was created by the Italian artist Blu back in 2007.
