775 Years of Berlin Celebration

The City of Berlin celebrated its 775th Anniversary yesterday on Sunday, 28th and it was… not what I expected. Everything started with a fire installation by the world-renowned French fire poets Compagnie Carabosse in front of the Berlin City Hall and after that, the spectacle began…

Inspired by medieval visions of afterlife, the Titanick Theatre Collective had set up 13 individual situations and scenes, an adequate description of how the observer feels when they enter into this dream world, between the Neptun Fountain and the Television Tower.

It was weird but interesting and entertaining, it felt like they combined the Anniversary and Halloween into one single celebration, with success.

Earth Hour 2012 Berlin

More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011 alone, sending a powerful message for action on climate change. In 2012, a new record was set, with 150 countries and territories across 6,494 towns and cities around the world.

In Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate, the Television Tower and the Red City Hall went completely dark for one hour from 8:30pm – 9:30pm on Saturday 31.03.2012. As part of the event, a map of the world was created by the WWF, using hundreds of colored-paper-surrounded tealights in front of the Brandenburg Gate. In addition, lanterns designed like the earth were handed out to the audience.

Berlin Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day 2012

It’s St. Patrick’s Day around the globe and everyone is celebrating this special day with lots of green and lots of beer. Also for the first time, landmarks throughout the world have been illuminated green to mark the day, for example, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Niagara Falls, the London Eye, the Burj al Arab hotel in Dubai, the Cibeles fountain in Madrid, the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, the Table Mountain in Cape Town and the Television Tower in Berlin.

Berlin had his very own St. Patrick’s Day parade and about one thousand Irish tourists and locals marched to bagpipe music through the city.
