After this years ITB, the next fair on my list was the Book Fair in Leipzig, so I took a car and traveled to the Leipzig Exhibition Grounds about 190km away from Berlin and like last year, the whole places was filled with cosplayers and photographers.
The ITB 2011 (International Trade Fair Berlin) the world’s leading trade show took place during the last few days, with 11,163 exhibiting companies and organisations from 188 countries (2010: 11,127 from 187 countries), approx. 170,000 visitors and 7,000 journalists from 94 countries with this years Partner Country, Poland.
And because everyone used the same decoration like last year, I focused on showing you the different people and attractions from the different countries who participated in this year’s fair.
Freddie Mercury is in town and for the next 3 month, you can meet him at Madame Tussauds Berlin, right beside Peter Maffay, Madonna and Bono.
Freddie Mercury was a British musician, best known as the lead vocalist and a songwriter of the rock band Queen. The wax figure, which was created in 1989 for the cabinet in London, before he died in 1991, was moved to Berlin to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band and the 65th birthday of Freddy Mercury himself.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe or Holocast Memorial is a construction which was build on 1st April in 2003, well let’s say they began to build it, because the last stelae was erected on 15th December in 2004.
The Memorial, which contains 2,711 stelaes, covers a vast area of 19.000 m² and can be found near the Brandenburger Tor in the middle of Berlin.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in the centre of Berlin is Germany’s central Holocaust memorial site, a place for remembrance and commemoration of six million victims. The Memorial consists of the Field of Stelae designed by architect Peter Eisenman and the underground Information Centre and is maintained by a Federal Foundation.
Berlinale 2011 is over. During the last week 18 young photographers received the opportunity to experience working as professional photojournalists to show us this years Berlinale through their eyes, or should I say, through their cameras?
All the works were gathered at the C/O Berlin gallery and Dieter Kosslick himself opened the exhibition “Close Up!”.
The City of Berlin has placed a 14 meters high and 53 meters wide Hollywood Sign in the middle of the Tiergarten between the Brandenburg Gate and the Potsdamer Platz.
The Holly- wait.. there is only one L? Oh boy, something went terribly wrong…
Just kidding, the Holywood Sign is a creation by the artist and filmmaker Ralf Schmerberg and part of a Climate Protection campaign, to plant 10.000 new trees all across the City.
So from now on, it’s “Welcome to HolyWood”.
Finally I had some time to visit this years Berlinale at Potsdamer Platz and lucky me got some shots of Helena Bonham Carter as she left the Hyatt Hotel near the Berlinale Palace to promote the new movie “The King’s Speech”.
Helena is well known for her role as Bellatrix Lestrange in Joan K Rowlings Harry Potter or on the Side of Johnny Depp as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.
A new Museum just opened its doors in Berlin’s Karl-Marx-Allee, and it’s not one of those boring historical ones, the Computerspielemuseum or Computer Games Museum Berlin. Well, it’s about the history of gaming and it might be boring if you are not interested in Video Games… but if you are, it is really interesting and informative.
Our museum, which was opened in Berlin in 1997, was the world’s first permanent exhibition devoted to digital interactive entertainment culture. Since then, we have documented the development of the medium at over 30 national and international events.
You are invited on an entertaining expedition to meet the game players of the 21st century. Numerous rare original exhibits, playable classic games and assorted media productions help you exploring the world of “Homo Ludens Digitalis”.
Anyway, if you have a liking in video games and want to know more about the creation of the Comodore64 and the invention of Apple’s first personal computer, you should pay it a visit.
