The Mural called Märchenwald (Enchanted Forest) can be seen in Neukölln, Treptower Street. It was painted by the street artist MooDy in 2008.
I spent the last week in Cologne, to visit this year’s gamescom (fourth time now without visiting the Cologne Cathedral, next time for sure!) and like last year I got invited by different developers and publishers to watch a couple of presentations about upcoming games.
As always, to get more information about your favorite games, just visit the different gaming websites.
I also took some time to walk around and take some photos, most of them are from the press day, the public days this year were just too crowded.
The 2012 remake of the 1990 released movie Total Recall had its German Premier today in Berlin at Sony Center Potsdamer Platz with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and director Len Wiseman.
The movie is about the factory worker, Douglas Quaid, who begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall, a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led. Also, the story does not include a trip to Mars.
So, I wouldn’t say it’s a complete remake, the story is based on the 1966 short story written by Philip K. Dick with a few similarities.
Polo is back in Berlin. The Finals of the German Polo High Goal Championship were held last weekend (11./12. August) on Berlin’s historical Maifeld (Mayfield) with national and international world-class players.
The Maifeld is a huge 112,000 square meters (28 acres) lawn and was created back in 1936 for gymnastic demonstrations, specifically annual May Day celebrations by Hitler’s government. During the 1936 summer Olympics, the field was used for the very first Olympic Polo event in Germany.
Since then, Polo is a famous sport in Germany and this year, eight teams sponsored by well-known companies like Tom Tailor, Land Rover or Samsung fought for the golden cup and the title “Best Polo Team in Germany”.
Berlin’s daily life can be really exhausting, that’s why the citizen of Kreuzberg changed those really uncomfortable plastic seats on a local bus stop into something more comfortable. Because, what’s better than relaxing on a couch while waiting for the bus?
Another abstract sculpture can be seen beside the Universal Music Headquarters in Berlin, a chaotic arrangement of crowd control barriers (which were highly charged symbolically in the turbulent inner-political atmosphere of the former West Berlin) with a shopping cart on the top.
The sculpture, named 13.4.1981, was designed by Olaf Metzel in 1987 as part of Berlin’s 750th anniversary celebration called “Sculpture Boulevard” and was first erected at the crossing Kurfürstendamm / Joachimstaler Platz, six years after a violent demonstration took place at precisely the same crossing.
The Christian Democrat mayor at the time, Eberhard Diepgen, declared the work to be “a pile of junk” and called for an immediate removal. Then, after 14 years, the sculpture was erected again, but this time beside the Universal Music Headquarters, with a wonderful look on the Spree.
To celebrate the Scottish and Celtic culture, Highland Games are being held throughout the year in Scotland and other countries across the globe. Bagpipe music, tartan pattered kilts, and of course, the heavy events, Caber tossing, stone putting, hammer throwing and Weight over the bar.
Because Berlin is a city of many cultures and even St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated every year, the highland games shouldn’t be missed. The strongest Men (and Women) from all across Germany gathered this weekend (14. and 15. July) in Berlin’s Gardens of the World, to compete in this special event.
On December 31st 2011, the Irish rock band U2 released an anniversary edition of their 1991 released Album, “Achtung Baby”, back then, the cover showed 16 pictures, one of them was a Trabant, a car only used in former East Berlin (GDR), as a symbol of a changing Europe. Also, a Trabant was used during their Zoo TV Tour, which now, stands at the Hard Rock Café in Berlin.
As part of the 20th Anniversary, six of those Trabants were creatively painted and shipped to different cities in Germany. One of those six can be seen in front of the Universal Music Headquarters (near Oberbaum Bridge) in Berlin.
Every year, the Oberbaum Bridge, which connects Berlin’s districts Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg over the Spree, becomes a meeting place for artists and those interested in art. Yesterday, over 100 national and international artists exhibited their works, ranging from established painters, sculptors and photographers to the less well known.
The newest reboot of the Spider-Man series, The Amazing Spider-Man, celebrated its German premiere today in Berlin.
The Movie is the first one of 3 planed movies about the new Peter Parker played by Andrew Garfield which was present today in Berlin together with Emma Stone who plays Gwen Stacy (Spider-Man’s girlfriend before he started dating Mary-Jane Watson) and Rhys Ifans who plays Dr. Curt Connors or “The Lizard”.
The new movie is about the young Peter and the search for his father who disappeared when he was young. After discovering a mysterious briefcase belonging to his father, he finds his father’s former partner, Dr. Curtis Connors, a one-armed scientist who tries to restore his lost arm, but something goes terribly wrong.
