The World Premiere of the movie Bel Ami was held today at the Berlinale Palast – Potsdamer Platz as part of this year’s International Film Festival in Berlin. The story of Bel Ami chronicles journalist Georges Duroy’s corrupt rise to power from a poor ex-NCO to one of the most successful men in Paris, most of which he achieves by manipulating a series of powerful, intelligent, and wealthy mistresses.

Robert Pattinson, who plays the role of the main character “Georges Duroy”, as well as his Co-Stars Christina Ricci and Holliday Grainger walked the red carpet while giving autographs and taking pictures with their fans. Sadly, Uma Thurman canceled her flight this morning, she had an appointment for the new US-Series Smash and wasn’t able to attend today’s special event.

During Green Week 2012, the whole Fair Ground is illuminated with green light. During last year’s Green Week (and also during ITB and IFA), only the Funkturm (Radio Tower) was illuminated, but it seems that this year they’ve added a little extra light.

The Potsdamer Platz is famous for its events, movie premieres and festivities, but what I saw yesterday was a bit different, 3 big yurts were standing in the middle of the Sony Center, in front of the CineStar Event Cinema. Yurts are portable, bent wood-framed dwelling structure traditionally used by Turkic nomads in the steppes of Central Asia, so it was quite interesting and I wanted to know what’s going on there.

Two of the yurts were closed, the third one had a sign, “Info Yurt”. I went in and was told that the yurts are being used by 35 authors, reading chapters of their books in front of an audience of about 25 people, as part of an event called “Readings in Yurts”. After the reading, they could ask question about the book and the author, probably because there were a lot of students in the audience. I was also told that it was the last day of this event but they will be back next year.

One of the most-read articles of 2010 and 2011 was the RAF Laarbruch – Abandoned Military Airbase which is quite surprising, I never thought that such an article would be so popular.

Therefore, I went back to North Rhine-Westphalia, to take a couple more pictures to give you a better overview of the whole area. Well, that was the plan, but I had to notice, that many companies bought or leased properties around the airport and many of the old buildings were refurbished or demolished, to make place for a more modern architecture but I hope you will get an idea on how it looked like about 50 years ago.

I’m really happy that I went there once again to take these pictures because by the end of the year, the “old” Military Airbase will be almost gone.

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara were in Berlin today at Sony Center – Potzdamer Platz, for the German Premiere of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (the German title for this Movie is Verblendung which means something like blindness or delusion).

The Movie (directed by David Fincher, known for his movies Fight Club, Se7en or Social Network) is about the Journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the computer hacker Lisbeth Salander, who are searching for a woman who has been missing, or dead, for forty years. The book, written by Stieg Larsson, was one of the best selling novels of the 20th-Century.

And in case you’re wondering, it’s not the 2009 Swedish version, it’s a completely new “rehash” straight from Hollywood.
